Tree-like, shrubby, perennial or annual plants producing entire or lobed, sometimes toothed leaves, usually funnel-shaped, solitary or clustered red to blue, orange, yellow or white flowers, which may have contrasting basal markings, often bloom for long periods. Best in sun and moist, organic, neutral to slightly alkaline soils that drain well. Indoor specimens need bright yet filtered light, moderate humidity, good ventilation, liberal watering, monthly applications of balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season, minimal watering in winter.
